Peptic ulcer disease (PUD) is an overall term to describe ulcers of esophagus, stomach, or duodenum. Many ulcers are well managed on conservative treatment and can be accepted as standard. Gastric ulcers require either biopsy or demonstration of healing to rule out the risk of malignancy.
